Raymond Myers (1935)
Rev. Raymond Paul Myers, 95, fought the good fight, finished the course, kept the faith, and on September 11, 2009, received a crown of righteousness from his Lord and Savior.
He was born on May 17, 1914, to George Ellis and Rhesa Myrtle (Lutton) Myers, the fourth of fourteen children, and raised in Anderson, Indiana, graduating in 1932 from Anderson High School.
Rev. Myers graduated in 1935 from Toccoa Falls Bible Institute in Georgia; and was ordained by the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He was fully licensed as a minister in 1946 and served as a minister for more than 60 years.
He was pastor at several Evangelical United Brethren Churches including Saratoga, Mt. Gilead at Pendleton, Sugar Grove in Hancock County, Mt. Zion in Fortville, Colonial EUB in Anderson, Royerton and Mt. Olive near Muncie, and Sunnycrest EUB Church in Marion. He also pastored United Methodist Churches in Connersville, Jeffersonville, Mt. Pleasant in Charlestown, Geneva and Pleasant Hill in Shelby County, Second UMC in North Vernon, and Mt. Olive at Columbus. He served as Associate Pastor of Fishers United Methodist Church and was Pastor at Moores Hill UMC in Moores Hill for six years before retiring for the second time in 2005. He is currently a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He was also retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors in Anderson in 1965 after 31 years.
Rev. Myers was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Doris V. (McMasters) Myers; his 24 year old grandson, Jason "Jake" M. Myers of Pendleton; his parents; sisters, Nellie Harmon, Ruth Carper, Pauline Miller, Lucille Caproon, Evelyn "Peg" Usher, and Ethel "Marge" Aynes; brothers, S. Arthur Myers and George P. Myers.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth R. (Diana) Myers of North Port, FL; three daughters, Peggy A. Maker of Indianapolis; Barbara J. (Tom) Stanley of Marietta, GA; and Marilyn R. (Bill) Creel of Pendleton; grandchildren, Scott (Kellie), Gregg, Bruce (Joellen), Chris (Nancy), and Todd Maker, Wade Myers, Jeff (Christy) Stanley, Christy Stanley (Spencer) Glenn, Melanie Creel and Stephanie Creel, and Natalie Creel (Cary) Chandler; three brothers, Charles V. (Nancy), Robert F., and James D. (Esther) Myers, two step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Rawlins House in Pendleton and Seasons Hospice for the loving care of their father these last months of his life.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064 with Reverend Margie Vandergraff officiating. Burial was in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Indiana.
